yes

I’ve been meaning to thank you for this. Your video was very inspirational for a small game I developed last year.

When I first heard the SFX fractal, it seemed perfect for synthesizing melee weapon sounds. So I built my own parameterized implementation that procedurally generates sounds in real-time based on players’ equipment and interactions. I found that the x- and y-axes correlated well with my inputs (modulation and timbre, respectively), and I controlled the pitch by manipulating the sample rates of the buffers. To tie it together, I interpolated between two points at various rates to create distinctive sounds for each weapon.

That was such a fun exercise! I definitely need to explore this concept, and other noisy fractals, more in the future.

Excellent work!

That's awesome!  Yeah, it's a great technique if you need a lot of sound effects with almost zero extra memory.   I'll check out the game.

what are some good custom fractals?

julia set is the purifier for sound? try with last map

ok?

try number 8 it sounds really cool

Hope you don't mind, but I got really inspired by the sounds and made a little techno album with it! It's fairly minimal, and I recorded it simply by messing with the program while I had a few drum machines going, but I think it turned out pretty cool! https://doortonow-here.bandcamp.com/album/fracktalmusick-live

nice!

nice

Honestly I think if we had the option to add reverb and select multiple points on a fractal this could potentially become a good ambient synthesizer for creating eerie or slightly dreamy sound effects.

Pretty cool! I used some of the sounds in a new track

Check out my port https://www.golova.dev/experiments/fractalSounds

Rip your Chromebook GPU

Use it to create custom fractals

wow

cool fracta

tell me how to use it?

...

ok?

that your fractal sounds

i have fractal sounds

thats awsome! you should make this into an audio plugin or something lol

Nice one!

Hey, when this becomes supported by apple OS then I'll definitely want this!

o

HOW DO YOU P

this is fake code i made it myself and it it not harmful. it probably won't even work if u try it

you are twisting my mind

did you use atleast one braincell before posting this comment

i used 0.01 braincell

For me it wont open

(+1)

i want it on chrome

Why can't I play it on the website?

There's always a problem saying that the virus scan failed.

Because it's a download

Because if your on mobile you don't have a keyboard to switch to other fractals

i'm not on mobile

Also, for laptop users, you can not hold J and move your mouse.

It would be convenient if you would let the users to choose which characters (from keyboard) do a certain action.

(1 edit)

Can you offer a keyboard character for Scroll in and out? Not all of have a mouse with scroll wheel.

Is it a virus?

no

Can this work as a plugin for Ableton? I wanna use these sounds in music production.

this was amazing , thank you

Truly one of the wildest applications of mind-boggling math I've seen in a very long time. Stuff like this really, really gets me going. Amazing work, my favorite thing on this entire website.

Could there be a version for Apple users?

Dan where is the windows settings

WHERE

virus?

NO IT IS NOT A VIRUS

great not a malware.

(+2)

Amazing software thanks so much for sharing! I've got some ideas for "feature requests", would you prefer them on here or on the GitHub repo?

A note for Windows 10 users:
Windows manages your graphics card so FractalSoundExplorer.exe will by default run on your CPU, you have to manually specify to run it on your GPU in `Widows Settings > Graphics Settings > Graphics performance preference`. If you have an NVIDIA card you can also have a look trough your NVIDIA Control Panel settings, but if you have a decent NVIDIA card you probably already have gone through and customised your settings anyway.

If you try to run FractalSoundExplorer on your CPU it will probably seem fine until it starts to chug...

it's a computer worm

...no

it is not a computer worm

oh.

If you want a virus go download a free minecraft

where in the code can we inject personnal fractal ?

In order to do this:

You must click the file I highlighted yellow: PEE FILE

The yellow file, don't click anything else because I don't know what the other files do lol

Edit this values I underlines blue:

WARNING! If you mess something up it will cause a command prompt to appear, THAT MEANS YOU BROKE THE CODE SO YOU MUST GO BACK IN AND FIX IT

sound designer here to say this is mad awesome. very inspiring stuff

The only thing I can ask for is to make our own fractals. I don't think that the fractals we have are bad, but being able to create our own fractals would be a lot cooler.

OpenGL was not meant for fractals. How did you do it? I can't even write simple shaders without my computer crashing. You are magical.
